Telling Your Complete Story
In my past life, I wanted to be a graphic designer. So, after graduating college with a business degree, I took design classes and learned the "art of seeing."
While graphic design wasn't my calling, it opened my eyes to the world of photography. And along the way, taught me important fundamentals, such as:
How to notice things the average person doesn't see.
Whether it's a beam of perfect light or a reaction to a big moment, these subtle nuances are what I love to photograph most. Because, ultimately, they tie the pieces of your story together.

Your photographer is one of the few vendors by your side almost all day long. So, having a sense of connection with them is essential to feeling comfortable and, in turn, looking natural in your photos.
This is why before we even get to talking about packages and pricing, we'll start by having you tell me a bit about yourself. Then, we'll plan your engagement session so we can get to know one another even better before the big day.
THE IMPORTANCE OF
While some photographers use color-changing filters or edit their photos to look dark and moody or light and airy, I create fresh yet timeless images.
Applying what I learned about developing film in a dark room, I edit your images to look bright and true-to-life - with minor enhancements to ensure you and your surroundings look their natural, best selves. This way, your images won't look dated in 20 years.

"Day of, she kept us laughing and eased our discomfort of being photographed."
SHE EASED OUR DISCOMFORT

Everything I do, photography-related and not, is centered around people and nature. People, because I love connecting with them. And nature, because it enriches people's lives. This is why many of my images are of people in scenic places.
Day-of, I'll arrive at your venue early to walk around, get a lay of the land, and get my creative juices flowing. So that, in the end, I'm providing you with the best pictures in the best places that match your style and personality.
THE IMPORTANCE OF
As your photographer, my goal is to help you feel at ease during this entire process. So, I'll lead with empathy and channel my energetic yet zen-like personality in every conversation.
I'll also send along helpful recommendations and planning documents. And should you have questions at any time, feel free to send me an email (and expect a quick reply.) Or, let's hop on Zoom so I can answer more of your questions or so we can plan your session in real time.

"Jacalyn was easy to work with in the planning process and very helpful. She showed up timely to the event and stayed on schedule and organized."
EASY TO WORK WITH & HELPFUL
- KAREENA, BRIDE
Before becoming a professional photographer, I was a wedding coordinator at a venue in Rochester. Now, I use what I learned during that brief (but valuable!) period of time to help you (and/or your planner) prepare your timeline so your day flows seamlessly.
I'll also suggest locations and ideas for portraits so as not to take us so far away from everyone that you lose valuable time celebrating. And we'll review all of these details before (and more), so we both feel confident knowing what I'm going to capture walking into the day.
THE IMPORTANCE OF
While I won't say I'm a total fly on the wall, I can say that I'll never interrupt an important moment. After all, my role is to document your day, not stage it.
I take a natural approach to directing, capturing your interpretation of the prompts I provide while also making minor tweaks to the placement of your hands or chin. But if there's a better opportunity for a photo, know that I'm not afraid to act on it - such as telling you to angle your body more towards the light.
I'll also use my eye for detail to remove small distractions such as hair ties on wrists or cell phones in pockets.

In the growing season (May-October), you can occasionally find me at Deep Root Farm, an organic farm just outside of Rochester, harvesting medicinal herbs to make tea blends.
NATURAL LIVING
Having climbed 4 of the 46 Adirondack peaks, I hope to cross a few more off my list this year. With the end goal of one day being able to proudly stitch the 46er patch on the back of my pack.
FINDING NEW PERSPECTIVES
Having climbed ___ of the 46 Adirondack peaks, I hope to cross a few more off my list this year. With the end goal of one day being able to join the 46ers hiking organization.
My friends and I host a women's circle every month to connect with each other, with other people, and with nature. Should you ever want to join us for a nature walk, let me know!
Wouldn't it be awesome if these were wearable?
"...Her cool, calm, and confident demeanor reassured me that we would have a photographer that knew what she was doing and would take great care of us."
